Personal account from Don Bedell:
The band formed after the break-up of two other local bands, Zen Machine and Iguana Nasties. Heavily influenced by the punk/funk movement of the late 80's the band played a set of covers from bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Living Colour, 24/7 Spyz along with some classic funk from groups like Parliament Funkadelic, Sly & The Family Stone and the Commodores.

The Metermaids had a good selection of originals as well. The band broke up in summer of 1990 following the graduation and departure of Athens by Don, Miki and Sue. Playing a lot of house parties, green weekends and the Uptown bars, along with their brethern in funk, "Hippopotamus", they established a strong following while, Unfortunately lasting only one year.
