History of The
Crunch from Bill Dutcher (April 2007).
First band name was Tomos Future. Founding members: 1984-ish?
Bill Dutcher - Guitar, Brian Wolbers - Vocals, Pat O'Connell
- Bass, Mark Grimm - Drums
Mark leaves band and was replaced by Chris McKee: 1985-ish?
Band changes to Snoblind. Plays East Green weekend and
Springfest events.
Name changes to "Captain Crunch''. Everyone seems
to call the band just "The Crunch". "Captain"
is dropped and name stays as The Crunch. Around this time
band forms side projects and Pat O'Connell and Brian Wolbers
go on to form band with Chris Biester, of lafter formed
band Appalachian Deathride, and various other members.
Also around this time Bill forms side projects: Uglystick,
Blue Star. Various members include Mark Johnson (drums)
Shannon Mulvahey (Bass) Kevin ????? (bass player for Snapdragons)
Mike Lynch (Bass) Phil Curran (Vocals) Deno Stanley (Drums)
Rodney Pyle (Guitar) Dave Selsberg (Drums) Jack Sowers (Bass
and Guitar)
Pat O'Connell leaves The Crunch to play bass with Bluesimus
Maximus and is replaced by Matt Aurigema. Chris leaves The
Crunch too and is replaced by Deno Stanley. Band continues
as The Crunch.
The Crunch continues with the addition of second guitarists
Mike Lindskold (Stewart MacDonald) and Steve Egan (The Name).
Brian Wolbers leaves band and is replaced by Paul Newman.
198-'ish? Band continues with Bill, Deno, Paul and Matt,
and releases two original CD's: "The Crunch" 1986
and "Paul Newman and The Crunch" 1989?
The Crunch is voted "Athens Best Band" for 3
or 4 years in a row.
Band performs Halloween as headliner in 1990. Paul leaves
band is remaining members re-unite with Brian Wolbers.
1992-ish? Matt Aurigema leaves band and joins Ma Rainy
and is replaced by Jack Sowers. 1995-ish? Band releases
3rd CD "Corner" with lineup: Bill, Brian, Deno
and Jack. Deno leaves band and is replaced by John Wallace.
Band continues to play up to today with members: Bill Dutcher,
Brian Wolbers, Matt Aurigema, John Wallace and occasionally
Jack Sowers. |
